“3-parent IVF: A bioethical Hiroshima”

The Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority(HFEA) has just validated the law authorizing three-parent IVF in Great Britain. This is a world first. It will have a considerable impact, both on a scientific level and on an ethical, judicial and financial one. According to the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation, this new technique for medically assisted procreation with genome manipulation involves several transgressions:

  • modification of the germlines
  • Creation of transgenic embryos

and for one of the techniques envisaged:

  • Creation of embryos for research,
  • Recourse to cloning

Jean-Marie le Méné, president of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation addresses French political leaders as well as research and health authorities concerning this major scientific evolution:

« Faced with this major bioethical outburst, what does France suggest? What has been decided for the protection of the integrity of the genetic heritage of each human being. »

France cannot ignore this biotechnological and ethical revolution. Modifying the genetic heritage of human beings involves both eugenics and transhumanism.

The presidential campaign has started, giving future political leaders the opportunity to commit themselves on an question we will no doubt be facing in France quite soon. The destiny of humanity is at stake.15
